Held by God:
Finding Hope that Endures
through Difficult Times by Recognizing God’s Provision
by Lori Phillips and Lynn Willers
Do you ever wonder if God notices you in your struggle and suffering, and if He cares? In Held by God, twin sisters Lori Phillips and Lynn Willers share what they’ve learned about God’s faithfulness through their experiences of pain, illness, and loss. What makes a healthy young woman’s lung spontaneously collapse? That was just the beginning of their painful medical mysteries. After Lori and Lynn found answers, they thought the worst was over. Then their family took another painful hit.
I found the medical aspects of this book interesting. Catamenial pneumothorax. Renal artery stenosis. Cancer. And I loved the sisters’ heart for our God and their readers. Lori and Lynn clearly long for others to know the sure hope they have found in God.

Unfortunately, their heart also gets in the way. Like the title, the story contains more words than necessary. It would have benefitted by further editing to pare it down, as painful as it would have been to lose emotionally significant content.
The book progresses from the twins’ health issues, through their mother’s cancer battle, and into a presentation of the Gospel. It’s an admirable effort, a beautiful story that would shine brighter if told more succinctly.
I recommend this book to patient readers, particularly those seeking reassurance that God is not far from them in their suffering.
Held by God is available on Amazon in paperback and Kindle editions.
